I’m Diya from Diya Cakes It — the home for realist cakes of real-life objects.

Born and raised in Kolkata, India I learned the art of baking from my mother. Sticking my little fingers in the batter and sneaking tastes of gloopy bliss in anticipation of the finished product will always be warm childhood memories. The sweet aroma cascading from the oven door brings a nostalgic comfort unique to cake baking. Cakes are paired with happiness, celebration, and for me joyful, precious family moments.

Who doesn’t love the smell of cakes baking? A deep chocolate and spiced orange scent filling the house on a winter day? Or a light and floral lemon reaching outside for a summer afternoon tea? Cake is more than a dessert, it’s a versatile medium for a range of flavours, occasions, and appearances. At Diya Cakes It you can see just how versatile cake decoration can be.

My passion for baking remained strong after my move to the U.K. I balanced my love of cake baking and decorating with raising a family of my own. With encouragement and love from family and friends, I entered the Solihull Fairtrade Cakeoff in 2015 and won in the family favourite category. It was an amazing experience; meeting the mayor and conversing with Michelin star judges gave me the confidence and push to go further. I knew my cakes tasted, and smelled, delicious but I had never decorated a cake with fondant in my life. So, I set myself the challenge.

The next year I entered the 2016 Solihull Fairtrade Cakeoff with two cakes. I won the family favourite category with my secondary cake and won the celebration category with my fondant cake. I was hooked; constantly striving to make tastier and more elaborate cakes I entered the next year too. After winning four times in three consecutive years, I was asked to judge the competition.

I was delighted. My cakes were becoming more and more known and appreciated, and I was being asked to give live demonstrations to impart tips and secrets to cake decorating success. My cakes have been featured several times in newspapers and magazines including The Sun, Daily Star and more. I realsitic cake video was FEATURED on ITV1 for TOP 100 Tiktok Videos 2024. I’ve partnered with international Brands like WD40, Real Real, Momcozy, NakedWolfe, Hungry Minds, Patchology and many more. I’ve participated in Cake International NEC, the largest cake competition in the world, and won accolades every time. My latest pride includes bagging GOLD in Illusion Cake category at the Cake International 2024

I decided to focus and hone my talents on a personal favourite and love of mine. Realistic cakes. Cakes you can’t believe are cakes. I have fooled so many people by making the cakes so item realistic I feel like a wholesome prankster. It is incredibly fun for me, and I want to share this joy with all of you. Here I am working with International BRANDS to create social media ads of ‘Is it Cake’ sharing my work and tutorials so everyone can make awesome cakes to fool their friends. Is That Cake? Bags, shoes, burgers, pizza, pop bottles, glass bottles, and even animals, you name it and I’ll cake it!
